Y3 Homework Summer A
Dear Year 3 Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a wonderful break over Easter. I am really looking forward to an exciting and productive half term ahead with the children.
As your child is now in Year 3, our expectation is that children complete 90 minutes of homework per week (approximately 15–20 minutes per day). This should include:
- Daily reading (at least 5 times per week)
- Regular practice of weekly spellings
- Regular number practice, including Times Tables Rock Stars and MyMaths
- One Takeaway Homework project each half term
Where possible, homework should be completed in the yellow homework book. Please find below all the information and documents needed for this half term.
Reading
“Reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child’s future success.” (OECD, 2022).
The will to read influences the skill — and the skill influences the will. Nurturing a love of reading is one of the most powerful ways you can support your child’s learning.
Research suggests three key ways to encourage this at home:
- Book chats (talking about what they are reading)
- Family reading time
- Reading aloud
There is a 'Book Chat' guide and a 'Reading at Home Guide' available in the homework tab to help you support your child with reading at home.
Book Recommendations
A fantastic place to discover new and esciting tests is the Open Univeristy Reading for Pleasure website. Each month, a gest recommends three books, helping you stay up to date with high-quality children's literature. You can also explore award winners and shortlists together.

Maths
Times tables
Please ensure regular times tables practice on TT Rock Stars — short, frequent sessions make a significant difference to fluency and confidence.
You can generate the same style worksheets we use in school here:

MyMaths
Each week, I will set a MyMaths lesson linked to current learning or to revisit previously taught skills. To encourage consistent effort, certificates will be awarded at the end of each half term. To receive a certificate, children must complete the assigned tasks consistently.
Spelling
- Weekly spellings are found on the homework page. Spellings are uploaded every Friday and a selection will be tested the following Thursday. These are linked to the spelling rules and patterns we are learning in class.
- You will also find the Year 3/4 statutory spellings broken down by week on the homework sheet. Although these are not tested weekly, these will be assessed at the end of the half term. It is important that you are learning these at home as well.
Takeaway Homework
Each half term, please support your child in choosing one task from the Takeaway Homework sheet. This encourages creativity and independence. The completed project is due on Wednesday 20th May 2026.
If you have any questions or need any guidance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Mrs Blackburn
