Homework Autumn 1
Hello and welcome to Year One,
Below, you will find all the documents you need to complete your homework, including the homework sheet with spellings and suggested maths practice.
Reading
'Reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child's future success' OECD 2022.
The will to read influences the skill and vice versa.
Research suggests that there are three important ways in which you can support your child to develop a love of reading:
- book chats
- family reading time
- reading aloud
Book recommendations: The following are good places to find new exciting texts and widen your reading repertoire:
Best Books for Year 1 | Ages 5-6 | The Reader Teacher
To help children branch out, the reader teacher offers some excellent suggestions for fans of a range of well-loved authors.

Every month, a guest recommends three books. It is great way to stay up to date with some of the best current literature for children. They also provide lists of award-winning books and shortlists which you can explore together.
Another great resource is the Norfolk Children's Book Centre who publish booklists on the site below.

Reading books must be in school on a Monday and will be changed on a Wednesday.
Maths
Your My Maths password is in your reading record for you to complete the weekly tasks set on there that link to our learning in school. Tasks will be set on a Friday and you will have a week to complete it, at the end of each half term certificates will be awarded to those children who have demonstrated consistent effort completing the tasks.
Takeaway Homework
For each half term, please choose a project from the document below. Bring in your finished takeaway homework on the date stated on the document for sharing with the rest of the class and the school.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
