Y3 Homework Spring B
Dear Year 3 Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a wonderful half term and a relaxing break. I am really looking forward to an exciting and productive half term ahead with the children.
As your child is now in Year 3, our expectation is that children complete 90 minutes of homework per week (approximately 15–20 minutes per day). This should include:
- Daily reading (at least 5 times per week)
- Regular practice of weekly spellings
- Regular number practice, including Times Tables Rock Stars and MyMaths
- One Takeaway Homework project each half term
Where possible, homework should be completed in the yellow homework book. Please find below all the information and documents needed for this half term.
Reading
“Reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child’s future success.” (OECD, 2022).
The will to read influences the skill — and the skill influences the will. Nurturing a love of reading is one of the most powerful ways you can support your child’s learning.
Research suggests three key ways to encourage this at home:
- Book chats (talking about what they are reading)
- Family reading time
- Reading aloud
There is a 'Book Chat' guide and a 'Reading at Home Guide' available in the homework tab to help you support your child with reading at home.
Timetables
Please ensure regular times tables practice on TT Rock Stars — short, frequent sessions make a significant difference to fluency and confidence.
MyMaths
Each week, I will set a MyMaths lesson linked to current learning or to revisit previously taught skills. To encourage consistent effort, certificates will be awarded at the end of each half term. To receive a certificate, children must complete all assigned tasks and achieve a pass mark of at least 70%.
Weekly Spellings
Weekly spellings are attached and clearly dated with the test day for ease. These are based on the spelling rules we are learning in class. The full half-term spelling list (split into weekly sets) is also included. These form part of the Year 3/4 statutory spelling list and will be tested at the end of the half term.
Takeaway Homework
Each half term, please support your child in choosing one task from the Takeaway Homework sheet. This encourages creativity and independence. The completed project is due on 1st April 2026.
If you have any questions or need any guidance, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Mrs Blackburn
