Reading

'Reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child's future success' OECD 2022.

The will to read influences the skill and vice versa.

Research suggests that the are three important ways in which you can support your child to develop a love of reading: book chats, family reading time and reading aloud. I have uploaded a poster to our website that may be of support.

Book reccommendations

A good place to start to find new exciting texts and widen your childs reading repertoire is the Open University Reading for Pleasure website.

https://ourfp.org/texts-authors/

Every month, a guest reccommends three books. It is great way to stay up to date with some of the best current literature for children.

They also provide lists of award winning books and shortlists which you can explore together.

Timetables

You can use your TT Rockstars account to practise timetables. You could also use your yellow homework books for timetables practise if you prefer.

The link below is to a website where you can create the worksheets that we use in school to practise for the weekly 5-minute timetables test:

MyMaths
I will set weekly activities which may be revision of past learning or linked to current learning.

Certificates will now be awarded at the end of each half term. If you complete all  the assigned work a certificate will be awarded (you may attempt each task more than once). This has been decided in order to promote consistent effort and practice.

Weekly Spellings

Please use your yellow homework book to practice your weekly spellings. You will find your weekly spellings in the homework tab at the top of our class page. These spellings are based upon the rules/patterns we are exploring in our spelling lessons.

You will also find the Y5/Y6 statutory spellings for the half term, broken down by week number, on this sheet. Whilst we don’t test these weekly, a selection of these words will be tested at the end of each half term, so please do make sure that you are learning these at home too!

Mrs Dale and Mrs Cheers also take a spelling group. If you are working in either of these groups, you will have your own list of spellings to learn each week. Please look out for these sheets in the homework tab at the top of our class page.

Takeaway Homework

Please choose one task from the takeaway homework sheet. This will be handed in on the 22nd May.

If you have any questions, please just ask.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Smith
